Gen.G Esports created history by becoming the first team to win the League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) cup for four consecutive seasons.
In the regional finals, Gen.G faced off against T1, demonstrating their dominance over the LCK tournament. Achieving consistent success over prolonged periods is extremely challenging in professional esports due to high skill requirements, unrelenting commitment, and continual overcoming of obstacles. Only two other teams have matched this feat of four straight titles – Team Liquid and G2 Esports in their respective leagues.
With this latest victory, Gen.G has secured qualification for the Mid-Season Invitational bracket stage along with Team Liquid, as the sole teams confirmed thus far. During their 18-game winning streak in the LCK, Gen.G only lost a single match against KT Rolster. This outstanding triumph ended T1’s period of dominance. T1’s servers experienced distributed denial-of-service attacks, hampering their practice despite difficulties qualifying for MSI.
In the playoffs, T1 won the first two points but required one additional victory over Gen.G to claim the title. However, Gen.G’s performance reinforced their status as the premier LCK team after four consecutive championship wins.
