South Korea’s DRX Crowned League of Legends World Champions

South Korean team DRX was crowned League of Legends world champions on Saturday after a stunning 3-2 victory over compatriots T1 in a thrilling final of the eSports tournament in San Francisco.

The most successful teams in Esports history, started as favorites and advanced to the first round of the competition.

But DRX took command after a series of upsets, with 19-year-old Kim “Zeka” Geon-woo’s performance in particular contributing.

The win marks DRX’s first-ever Summoner’s Cup and makes them the first team to ever win Worlds as the fourth seed and a Play-Ins team. DRX’s win also sees the return of the Summoner’s Cup back to Korea after losing the title in 2021.

DRX have had a massive resurgence through Worlds 2022. They took down EDG, the defending world champions, they took down GenG, and now they’ve taken down T1 to win the world title.

The Finals took place at the Chase Center in San Francisco, home of the Golden State Warriors NBA team, in front of approximately 16,000 spectators.

The League of Legends World Championship is considered one of the most prestigious esports tournaments.
Worlds 2022 is the single biggest event in the League of Legends calendar, and it has finally concluded with DRX being crowned the world champions.
